Popular Performing Arts Theatre. Matinees and Catered Dinner Theatre Events. Located in Scenic Downtown Stuart, VA, nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Star Theatre originally opened in June, 1947. It operated as a movie theater until about 1961. Over the next 20-30 years, it was used as a laundromat, an electronics repair shop, a furniture store and as apartments.

In 2004, the building was purchased by a private investor and a complete renovation was begun. The entire inside of the building as well as the roof was replaced. The theatre was restored in a manner reflecting the Art Deco style of the original structure. The total square footage of the building is 4,725 square feet, comprised of the main floor, partially finished basement and the balcony area. Building and lot dimensions are 40'6" x 78'6" with 40'6" fronting Patrick Avenue. The lobby area boasts stamped tin ceilings, ceramic tile floors and a color scheme true to the original. A level floor replaced the sloped floor of the theater so that movable tables and chairs could be used to provide more flexibility. Seating capacity for theatre shows is at 260 chairs. With tables and chairs, the theatre can seat 142 people. The floors of the theatre and balcony areas are of hardwood oak. A new sound and digital projection system has been installed. Three newly installed heat pumps provide heating and cooling. The Star Theatre is situated between the Downtown Cafe and the Bull Mountain Arts Cooperative.

The Downtown Cafe provides fine dining as well as catering services for The Star's dinner theatre events. The Bull Mountain Arts Cooperative houses an array of crafts and artwork by local artisans. The town of Stuart is the county seat of Patrick County which is part of "The Crooked Mile", attracting tourists to the area to appreciate the art, music and crafts associated with the Appalachian Mountains. On-street parking is available as well as access to two municipal parking lots.
